Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 9 - Coma
Today was the day! The hospital had a bed for Alessa! We got there at 1:00 and she was peacefully sleeping in the coma by 3:30.
We're so glad that she was put in the coma today. She had a really bad night. She kept having muscle seizures. She had to be strapped into the wheelchair with Steve's belt, because she couldn't hold herself up. She couldn't even hold her head up. It was hard not to cry seeing her like that.
The hospital staff let Steve and I lift her onto the bed. They let me undress her. She couldn't even help. Her muscles were so rigid that she couldn't move. When they were about to induce the coma, she had such a smile on her face. She was so happy knowing that this was it. She was finally going to be placed in the long awaited coma that would relieve her of her pain. That gives you a little bit of an idea as to how much pain she was in.
We gave her lots of kisses and told her how much we love her. We wished her pleasant dreams, then went to the waiting area.
After an hour we were allowed to see her again. She was sleeping soundly in the coma. Even though she's hooked up to all kinds of machines, we could see the peace on her face. We both sighed. No more pain!!! She's in a nice, deep, pain free sleep.

Painfully waiting.

Alessa with her mom.
It's time!
In the coma.

Thank goodness, Alessa's resting and now you too can rest. We're thinking of you and wishing Alessa sweet dreams. Take a long walk, read a book or two or ten, breathe in the fresh air. Maybe even a massage. You've earned it. You and Alessa are in our prayers for remission.
