Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 28 - The Gym
Sabine worked with Alessa in the gym today. She had Alessa laying on a table so that she could help her exercise her legs from side to side and up and down. Then she had Alessa up and walking using two parallel handrails. She showed Alessa the proper way to stand and how to hold her hips forward when she walked. Alessa was able to go back and forth for the length of the rails twice. She also used the manual walking machine that she was working on yesterday.
Alessa didn't realize how hard it would be to start walking again because in her mind she knew how to walk. She didn't know that her body wasn't going to cooperate. She knows now that she has a lot of work ahead of her.
She'll be back in the hospital gym again tomorrow.

Alessa,
Be patient with yourself and your strength will return. Remember that it took a while for you to get this way, it will be a while to return to your former self. But isn't God good?! You are pain free! What a blessing! Your new life has begun! We are praying for you and know that God will be with you every step of the way, and "You've come a long way, baby!"

Hey Alessa!
My name in Lindsay and I also had the coma. As frustrating as that is, it WILL get much better! I promise!!! I had not even gotten out of bed or even sit up at all for three years and had not put any weight on my legs for at least five or six. And now.. I am only using my wheelchair ONCE A DAY at the most! Now, I am only walking short distances at a time and am working on my endurance. And I KNOW you will get there! God has brought you this far and He will not leave now. Keep fighting! I know you will, after all you got this far, right? And that ALONE is equal (in my mind) to moving mountains!!! Great Job!!!
I do have a quote that I love and use all the time. There were and are times I just felt like giving up. In those times I think of this quote.. "When you feel like giving up, remember why you fought this long in the first place!" LOVE IT!!!
If you need anything or have any questions you are WELCOME to email me at centerfield30@comcast.net. I also have skype if you would like to talk or chat. I am up crazy hours so just let me know if you need something. Can't wait to meet you when you get home!!! IT"S COMING!! :)
Love and Prayers!
God Bless You All!
Lindsay
