Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 27 - Physical Therapy

Sabine, the physical therapist, showed Alessa how to exercise her legs in bed. After that, Alessa put on her new sneaks and began the process of learning to walk. She uses a special manual walking device that allows her to stand up straight while her arms are resting on this machine that is on wheels. She is fully supported by the machine as she walks along with the therapist right behind her while Steve follows along behind both of them with the wheelchair.

Alessa was able to leave her hospital room and walk up and down the hallway. She did need to rest in the wheelchair for a little bit before she was able to walk back to her room. This was definitely a big moment for Alessa and for us since she hasn't walked at all in over three years. Her feet have not been able to touch the floor due to extreme pain for over one year.

We are so proud of Alessa because she is so determined to be "normal" again. She said that she will work so hard to achieve this goal. She is looking forward to going to physical therapy in the hospital gym tomorrow. Sabine will show her how to use more machines and give her more exercises to do.

Alessa continues to be free of RSD pain! We give thanks to Mary, Our Mother of Perpetual Help, for taking such good care of Alessa.
