Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 24 - Bed to Wheelchair
Alessa's improving a little bit at a time. She graduated from a hospital gown to a T-shirt! She's really looking forward to being able to wear pants. That could happen in the next couple of days.
She is much more lucid today. She has little moments of confusion, although she doesn't think she's confused. The many different things she's said has made us laugh a lot. For instance, she thought she had bird flu for the last two years. As the story goes, she passed out in an airport and the military rescued her and took her to the hospital where she's been in a coma for two years. LOL! She's had many interesting things to say as she's been withdrawing from the ketamine.
Today is a very big day. Nurse Doris helped Alessa get out of bed and into a wheelchair. I was so nervous because Alessa hadn't put any weight on her feet in over a year. Alessa did great transferring from the bed to the wheelchair with Doris' help. I thought I was going to faint! I'm the nervous one, not Alessa. Doris is also going to remove the bedrail from one side of Alessa's bed. Alessa just needs to work on eating and drinking more fluids.
All the nurses are wonderful. Alessa is getting excellent care.

Aren't all of the little things amazing? Just watching someone touch her without her flinching is like being handed a million bucks. I am so excited for Alessa and also for you two. You have alot of surprises to see as she becomes herself all over again. It is almost as much fun as watching them develop personalities when they are babies. Praying that all continues to go very well and that you can enjoy the rest of you "vacation"lol. Robbie
