Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 23 - No RSD Pain

When the nurse checked on Alessa today, she asked the big question that we didn't dare ask: Are you in any pain? Alessa said, "NO!". She's just achy all over from not using her muscles in so long. She said that she's just fine with being achy.

We suspected that she wasn't in pain because she hasn't reacted to anyone's touch. The nurse rubbed her arms and legs wi
th moisturizer today and Alessa was just fine. We've been holding our breath waiting to see her reaction to each touch. So far, so good!!!!

I stayed overnight at the hospital with her last night and I'll stay again tonight. She's still not lucid. She's having more clear moments today, but most of what she says has nothing to do with what's really going on. Most of the nurses don't speak any English. Imagine being in a hospital room in another country with nurses that don't speak any English and your daughter speaking only nonsense! I kept hoping that someone would wake me from this dream!

Today is a much better day. Alessa's improving a little at a time. Nurses who could speak a little English came on duty.

  • Hi Terrry and Alessa!

PRAISE THE LORD!!! NO PAIN!!! How long have you all waited to hear that. Well, that's in the past and I am so HAPPY for you all!!! Keep up the great work Alessa!

And yes, it is kind of crazy with everyone around you speaking a language you don't understand and then you can't even understand what Alessa wants so that makes it even HARDER!!! I remember once I finally woke up and was talking to my Mom and a friend that were there, they were telling me stories of how almost everything I said made no sense and the little I said that did, I jumped from past to future, back to past and then present. I couldn't believe it! I thought I was making PEFECT sense!!! We certainly had some comical moments in Mexico that we all still laugh about. One time it took us at least 30 minutes for the nurses to figure out I needed a bed pan. Not something you can wait for!!! Hehe.. anyway we were making complete fools of ourselves trying to "mime" and act out what we needed. Boy, if we could have had that on tape! (we finally did get one by the way). But hey, look at the bright side... when you get home NO ONE will be able to beat you in charades!!!

Keep up the Great work and you'll all be home before you know it and Alessa will be slowly regaining her life back. Can't wait to meet you guys!!

    Love You,

    Lindsay Spengler (another coma patient)

  • Great news for Alessa and family!!!! Hi Terry! I think it's good that you're staying in the hospital while Alessa's not able to get her wants/needs across. This was a time of poor appetite, and lots of thirst, and need to get to the bathroom often. The response isn't always as quick as needed, and you don't want her to take off on her own.
Don't forget to return bottles to the cafe in the hospital for your 37 cent (EU) refund on each one.
Things will be better, but the time goes slowly when you're waiting for each thing to improve. Don't worry, they will. You and Steve take care of yourselves too! HERE'S TO A WHOLE NEW WORLD AHEAD!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey, welcome to this brave new world. I am sure you are elated to have Alessa to just touch, kiss, hold, touch, kiss, hold, etc. Those moments are so very precious when you have been deprived of them. Sounds like you guys are doing so very good. Every day gets better. Just remember it will be the little things that will absolutly amaze you and take your breathe away.

    Praises to our Healer,
    Robbie (for all)
