Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 21 - She Speaks
Alessa is able to speak. Her voice started out sounding like a sheep with the baa-ing sound attached to each of her words. As our visit went along, her voice was getting stronger and the baa-ing sound started to go away. She could only talk for a little bit at a time and very slowly.
When Doctor Schug came in, I asked her if she had any questions for him. She said very loudly and clearly, "When can I get up and start walking?" We almost fell on the floor! He explained to her that it was a little too early since she's still receiving medicine to sedate her. She then said, "Let me rephrase the question. When can I sit up on the edge of the bed?" He explained that they wanted her to rest more today and that tomorrow he would see how she does sitting up in bed before she sits on the edge of the bed.
The doctor was very surprised at how clear headed she is. He kept saying that this has never happened before. He said that all coma patients act a little crazy at first due to the ketamine and the hallucinations. She has been completely lucid and in the moment. He kept shaking his head.
He asked her if she needed anything and she gave him both thumbs up and said that she was just fine. He told us that since she's doing so well, she may be able to go to a regular room tomorrow. He's going to call us in the morning to let us know.
We really had a wonderful visit with her today. She asked to see pictures from our visit to the Saarbruecken Zoo. She also told us what she'd like from the store: apple juice, ginger ale, Cheerios and a new hairbrush. Things are really looking up!

Steve and family,
I have been so emotional coming to this site to find out about Alessa. You see, I have had my church family cell group praying for you all for many months. We pray specific things not just for God to heal your daughter, but like for enough money and comfortable accommodations and sensitive care givers and good weather (i dont know about that one)and that others will see your story and be encouraged and blessed. God is so very awesome for I know He hears and responds to our prayers as I read these updates. We will continue to pray and if there is something specific that we can pray with you about, just let me know.
I miss you Sonny! :) Praying for all the best that our sovereign God has to offer you and your family. Looking forward to more and more good news. Be sure that you and Terri take care of yourselves too.
