Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 20 - Making Progress
Alessa has come a long way since yesterday. She can move her head, arms and legs. She waved to us with both hands when we came into the room. It was great to see. She's still not able to talk yet, even though she was trying really hard. She was able to say only one word and that was Igor. Why Igor? We don't know. That could be a side effect of the ketamine.
The feeding tube and the I.V. line in her left hand were removed today. The soft restraints around her wrists that were on her yesterday were also removed. She still has more lines and tubes attached to her. They're taking them away a little at a time. She's definitely making progress!
She motioned for me to get her a pen and paper. She tried so hard to write what she wanted to say, but it came out as scribble. She tried again a half hour later. It was also scribble, but it was more orderly and closer to being letters. For still being under sedation, she was very alert.
It was hard for us to leave her. She didn't want us to go, but she understood that visiting hours were over. She was able to blow us kisses, which was really nice.

I'm so happy to read about Alessa's progress. She has been in my prayers for so long & she and the whole family will continue to be. I can't even imagine how strong she & her whole family are.

Hi Alessa!
You've come a long way baby! So happy to see the pictures of you waving with your mom and dad. Hope you continue to make steady progress.
Love,
Aunt Donna, Uncle Ken
and John
P.S. Your reptiles are enjoying licking some droplets from the side of their tanks as I type! They miss you, too.
