Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 17 - Relief
As soon as we saw Alessa today, relief flooded through us. She looked so much better than yesterday and the drainage tube was gone.
Dr. Rohr came in and explained that Alessa got an infection when the line going into the right clavicle area caused air to get into her chest cavity. The air caused pressure against her lung, which kept her lung from working properly. The infection caused a fever. He said that infections are very common with this procedure, but they are easily taken care of. She's on antibiotics and is doing fine.
She's still in the coma, but not as deep. We could see a little eye movement every now and then. She's expected to start waking up either late tomorrow or Sunday. The doctor said the extra days of sleep are good for her.
