Alessa's Germany Experience, Day 1 - Boston
Left Philly for Boston via Delta Airlines - The whole experience was good until the end when Steve couldn't get Alessa out of the seat. The plane was small. It held 50 people, but only 29 were aboard. Normally, the seat arm goes up, which makes it a lot easier to get Alessa up. On this particular plane, the arms don't go up. It was very difficult for Steve to get Alessa out of the seat. There wasn't much room to maneuver. When he finally got her up, her pain level had increased.
The passengers had to exit the plane by going down steps onto the tarmac. Needless to say, Alessa couldn't do this. They had to wheel over a special lift that only held two people at a time. Alessa and Steve went down together. It was so windy on the tarmac. By the time Alessa was on the ground, she could no longer move. She couldn't even hold her head up. She was in really bad shape. Steve had to put his belt around her to hold her onto the wheelchair.
Luckily, we were staying at the Hilton-Logan Hotel, which is located at the airport. The Delta personnel were so worried about Alessa that they had two of their people escort us to the hotel. They picked up our luggage and took our carry ons and carried everything to the hotel for us. They were just wonderful.
We checked into the hotel early and got Alessa right to bed.
We had a very nice visit from our adopted niece, Christine, who goes to college in Boston. Unfortunately, Alessa didn't wake up at all during the visit. I took a picture of Christine next to Alessa who was sound asleep in bed so that Alessa could see that Christine was really there.
